“At the heart of the City of London, Bevis Marks Synagogue is an enduring symbol of the place of the Jewish community in the life of the nation. For more than three hundred years, this, the oldest synagogue in continuous use in the United Kingdom, has borne witness to the faith that is a vital part of the heritage and the values we all share.

This is why I am so glad, as Patron, to be able to support the Bevis Marks Synagogue Heritage Foundation with its ambitious plans to transform the building into a religious, cultural and educational centre for all.

The support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, charitable trusts and foundations and generous donors is an indication of the project’s far-reaching significance.

It is my hope that, with such committed support, this inspiring cross-community endeavour will prosper and become a lasting testimony to all that is best about our society.”
